Mikolaj SZAFRAN is chemist specialized in advanced ceramic technology and works on designing of the advanced ceramic materials, based on the chemistry. He considers ceramic materials only as a top of a “pyramid” which fundaments are constructed from chemistry, physics, mechanics, biology, etc. In his work, he trys to combine/use his knowledge of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry in order to understand the relations between properties of raw materials, green and sintered bodies.
His scientific achievements comprise 1 book, 4 monographs, 270 articles published in scientific journals and over 350 oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences in Poland and abroad. He is also the author and co-author of 40 patents and 19 patent applications. Besides, he is also the author or co-author of over 50 technological studies, many of which have been used in the industry, e.g. specially designed ceramic porous materials have been used in 60 industrial plants. Moreover, he has delivered more than 60 speeches as plenary and invited speaker at numerous conferences in many countries. Dr SZAFRAN has cooperated with foreign centres for many years, for example:
o Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an, China
o Korea Institute of Materials Science, Changwon, Korea
o EMPA, Materials Science and Technology, Duebendorf, Switzerland
o Institute for Problems of Materials Science National Academy of Science, Kiev, Ukraine
o Ente per le Nuove Tecnologie e Ambiente, Rome, Italy
o National Institute of Materials Science, Tsukuba, Japan
o Institute of Glass and Ceramics, Madrid, Spain.
